Eritrea’s blue flag – a simple post

The Blue flag that used to represent Eritrea means many things for many Eritreans today. Primarily used by the Eritrean opposition now, it was formerly the main and only flag of Eritrea since the parliamentary era up until the ELF got kicked out of Eritrea. However, since the PFDJ government has formed what post independence Eritrea will look like, and since the directions of the wider Eritrean opposition’s political beliefs goes all over the place, this blue flag has now ended up in brigade nihamedu’s branch in Israel, while in the past, the Pan-Arabist ELF supported Palestine, and also had this flag.

Although some will just say that this flag is symbolic, the multiple different backgrounds and ideologies that have waved this flag have grown tremendous. And it displays another problem among the Eritrean opposition, division. Division of ethnicity, interest, ideology, policy and much more.

There are many unanswered questions and neglected portions of national economy, resources, policy, development, identity, history, etc that the PFDJ government has failed spectacularly in. With the many people that have adopted this flag in the opposition, and the many more who will most likely go on to, it shows how far the blue flag of Eritrea has gone for a flag that has never been used for a fully independent Eritrea thus serving as a warning for how easy symbols can be to warp. With one side that will wave the flag but are ran ethnic supremacists, and another one that will wave the flag but secretly work with Ethiopian expansionists, it truly serves as a reminder to all Eritreans that you must develop a sharp sense of caution when dealing in politics.
